If a plaque is meant for Kyiv, its design is limited by Kyiv City Council decision no. 22/7988 of 21 March 2024. Below is what concerns the plaque itself, as summarised by the Shevchenkivskyi District Administration.
- Material. Resistant to weather and mechanical impact. Black granite and any other black material are banned.
- Number. No more than one plaque per person or event.
- Placement. Not higher than the first floor or plinth, preferably 1.6–2.0 m above ground, at least 0.5 m from decorative elements. A plaque must not cover windows, doors, shop windows, balconies or decor.
- Text. In Ukrainian only. It must explain why the plaque is at this address and give the full name and years of life, or the essence of the event.
- QR code. Allowed. It leads to a page about the person on the district administration’s website.
- Several plaques on one building must share one design: the same size and material.
There are time limits too. The district administration has two months to check that the project matches the approved sample. As a rule, a plaque is installed no earlier than one year after a person’s death and three years after an event; the limits do not apply to Heroes of Ukraine, honorary citizens of Kyiv and combatants killed as a result of Russian aggression.
For a customer this is simple: a sketch for Kyiv should follow these rules before the application is filed. Rules change, so check with the district administration first.
